What to check, wherever you buy
Ask for a measurement, not a size
Vintage sizing is not standardised and has drifted by several centimetres per decade, so a label reading M tells you far less than a chest measurement taken flat. A seller who measures is a seller who has handled the piece. If a listing has no measurements and the seller will not take them, that is information in itself.
Read the one- and two-star reviews, not the average
An average rating is dominated by transactions that went normally, which is not the case you are protecting yourself against. The low-star reviews tell you what happens when something goes wrong, and that is the only part of a seller's record that predicts your downside.
